Yesterday?
My P&L was higher than today,
?Cause I have this bloody time decay.
Oh I believe in yesterday

Why it went so low
I don?t know?
I did no trades.
I am gamma long
And now I long
For yesterday

Suddenly?
I?m not half the NAV I used to be
With this gamma hanging over me
Oh I believe in yesterday

The index never moves
And more I lose,
To my dismay.
Now my premium?s gone
And so I long
For yesterday?

Probably one of the most sticking adaptions of the original melodies I've ever heard. There's at least one trader who blames me for the inability to get this song out of her head.

Any plans to produce and post an mp3?

Can you finish this one (no offence to anyone ) Sing as the "wild Rover" (Dubliners, Thin Lizzy, Metallica)

I've been a vol trader for many a year
And I spent all my money on options and beer
But now I'm returning with gold in great store
And I never will play the vol trader no more

Next verse?
I went into a trading house I used to frequent
And I told the IT Quant my options were spent
I asked him for AddIns he answered me nay
Sure traders like you I can have any day

Chorus:
And it's no nay never no nay never no more
Will I play the wild trader no never no more
boom boom boom (now you bang on the table!)

Next verse?
I took out of my pocket ten AddIns bright
And the boss's eyes opened wide with delight
He said he had coupons and shorts of the best
Sure the words that he spoke were only in jest

Chorus:
And it's no nay never no nay never no more
Will I play the wild trader no never no more
boom boom boom (now you bang on the table!)

Last verse?
I'll go home to my bosses and confess what I've done
And I'll ask them to pardon their prodigal 'son'
An if they'll expire me like oft times before
Then I never will play the wild trader no more

Chorus:
And it's no nay never no nay never no more
Will I play the wild trader no never no more
boom boom boom (now you bang on the table!)

Exotique and James: I actually wrote this (adapted now that I am in a HF) in 1993 when markets were super-unvolatile. I used to be in a band (vocals, electric/acoustic guitar, and still have stage mikes, reverbs and mixers, so actually could do an mp3. I imagine it would be the first musical/financial mp3 posted on Wilmott...

Thing is if I do, people will think I've been losing money in my HF by being long gamma! For the record, I've not been long gamma since I wrote this in 1993, apart from short periods of time. Sadly I was short gamma late 1997 (ouch) and after that have maintained pretty much flat gamma as a policy. I have been short gamma recently through puts on variance, but I am comfortable with that position.

Kookullin: Is that an Irish drinking song? 'fraid I don't know it mate!

Yes. It's got a good swing to it. The refrain entails thumping the table very hard and loud.

Yes, yes.
Could also be sung by the traders at the IPE in London, ever seen them in a pub after work?

See below where I show where the banging should be done ...

Exotique: I often speak to journalists and after a conversation about volatility I mentioned my little ditty ...

James: Song for the Gamma Long appeared in Derivatives Week - and I made it clear that my fund is not long gamma (actually short gamma and long longer term vol) and also made it clear that this was not intended as a taunt to those people who *were* long gamma.

I got a lot of email and BBGs on this!
